Lakes for swimming

Lej da Staz /Lake Staz

The Lej da Staz (lake Staz) is located between St. Moritz and Pontresina in a wide open clearing of the vast forest of Staz. The moor fields which border on two sides of the lake, the reed stands and the floating islands of mountain clover give the lake its extraordinary allurement and create a very special ambiance. In the East the Languard mountain chain forms the horizon, while looking westward, above the tops of the mountain pines and larches one can see the impressive silhouettes of Piz Julier and Piz Albana. On sunny summer days Lake Staz warms up enough to attract eager swimmers.

Lej Nair / Lake Nair

Located 200 meters below the “Hahnensee” Lake Nair mirrors the massive Piz Corvatsch, which rises above the larches and pine trees of the lake shore. Dragon flies dance above the still water and with a little bit of luck you might see a fish performing an acrobatic jump. The sun warms the water enough, so that you may risk a jump into the wet. As Lake Nair can only be reached on foot paths, not many people feel like carrying their swimsuits all the way up to it.

Lej Marsch / Lake Marsch

Lake Marsch is situated a little bit below Lake Nair. This lake is one of the favorite lakes to swim in the region, as the water reaches temperatures of 21° to 22°C when the weather is nice. The shores are sunny and protected from the wind and there is a little beach on the north shore with picnic places. Because of these circumstances and also because of the lake’s closeness to the parking spaces of the Olympic ski jump, many visitors come on summer days.

Lägh da Cavloc / Lake Cavloc

The water is rather cool but nevertheless inviting for a short swim, especially after you have reached the lake after a 1 to 11/2 hike from Maloja. There is a small restaurant with a lovely terrace, and around the lake grill stations invite you to enjoy a nice picnic.
